Read Across America/Family Literacy Night

Read Across America/Family Literacy Night
Posted on 02/14/2018
At Oakview, one of our goals is to consistently promote the love of reading with our students.  Each year, we kick-off our Read Across America activities with a school-wide assembly to get students excited about our reading challenge.  This is a great motivator for students and they are introduced to the many ways they can be rewarded for their efforts.  Also, the week of March 5 - March 9, we have daily school-wide themed days to celebrate Read Across America.  Dr. Seuss Week Celebration Days.pdf

Throughout the month of March, students are challenged to read each night and log their total minutes reading.  We then tally weekly results and award prizes to individual students, entire classrooms and teachers.  We also incorporate a school-wide DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time so each classroom has an opportunity to dive into a book each day.

Last year, we exceeded our school goal in impressive fashion and look to build off this momentum this year.  If we reach our school goal, Mr. Dougherty will be puckering up to kiss one of our farm animal friends from Safe Haven Keneva Farm in Mullica Hill.  We also have several local sponsors who we are extremely grateful for who help make this event possible.

In addition to this year's reading challenge, we will be hosting our first annual Family Literacy Night on Thursday, March 15 from 6-8pm.  We hope to have all our Oakview families participate in a fun night of interactive literacy activities.  To RSVP for Family Literacy Night, please click on the link below or contact the office for additional information.  Thanks for your continued support!
